Living and Learning Center for Regenerative and Nonviolent living
Cluj
Provision is situated in the Western part of Transylvania. We are nestled in the foothills of the Western Carpathians, or Apuseni Mountains in a small oasis of fruit and walnut trees on the divide of wild mountain forest and gently rolling agricultural land. In the mountains just bordering the village to the west, bears, wolves and lynxes still roam in a vast stretch of nature preserve connected to the famous Padis plateau, where hikers and spelunkers like to explore a complex terrain of mountains, rivers and caves. The rolling hills on the Eastern side of our village is where local smallholders have been cultivating the fields for centuries.
We cultivate and grow food and beverages to feed our own family, our volunteers, friends and guests. We raise goats for milk and meat and chickens for eggs and meat.
Work on the farm: daily tasks; animal care; one draft horse, four dairy goats (milking), chickens, rabbits, dog, cat, cooking, seasonal work; haying, planting, growing, harvesting, canning & preserving, butchering, juicing & distilling… Projects like natural building, infrastructure improvement, farm upkeep… Work with the village community: Our village is a peasant community struggling for its existence in the speed of modern ‘development’. We very much encourage our interns to partake in the work of these villagers, help where it is needed. We ourselves do this as well. This is a great opportunity to do social service, learn skills first hand and have wonderful cultural exchanges. Work for our center for regenerative and nonviolent living: During summer season we provide courses and workshops at Provision. This brings along a fair amount of organization and work. Our volunteers can help to keep the farm running smoothly as these courses are happening, and help with the organisation around the courses. Work schedule: Summertime is a busy season. Some days will be fuller and longer then others. We work with the flow of season, weather, ongoing projects and personal energy. Weekends are off and create the opportunity to take care of personal needs. Sundays we respect the day of rest of the community.
