To all gardening and nature lovers, I am Ana-Maria, a wanna be "new peasant" who switched from city life to rural life back in 2013 and has been slowly but surely developing a market garden together with my partner, and since 2022, our kid. We prefer to grow a large variety of veg and tend to a fruit orchard of about 70 trees. From the vegetables, we aim to sell locally, to restaurants and direct to consumers, we had a CSA which was too intense to continue with the limited work resources at the moment. We also love to save seeds, and exchange them with other plant nerds. In some seasons we have two sheep for meat, and chickens for eggs and meat. We have two dogs and two cats, all outdoor pets. Depending on the season, activities can be in the greenhouse or in the garden, and include preparing the soil, mulching, seeding, watering, weeding, harvesting, cleaning, putting into storage, packaging, bringing produce to sell, transplanting seedlings, pruning, spraying with organic preparations (if needed), cooking, processing food for winter preserves, moving electric fences, watering animals, emptying compost toilet, etc. For handypeople, there might be an occasional building project or repairing damaged infrastructure. WWOOFers can stay in a tiny house (about 30 sqm) from natural materials built in the same yard with our current house. We used to live in it until a little while ago. It has all basic amenities and it can accommodate two people quite comfortably. Compost toilet and shower are outside, in a separate little outhouse. In the cold months, accommodation is more intense volunteers (and us), because it requires firewood and close tending to a DIY rocket-stove for heating. Thus if you plan to come Nov-end March, we might ask for a modest contribution for firewood, and you will need to prepare your own wood (splitting, carrying, making fire, etc.) and possible food too, due to much less work and food from us available. In terms of food, we cook a diet of everything, and we focus to avoid highly processed foods and sugar. We eat our own produce, and when we don't have anymore, we buy food, as needed. The aim is to increase the amount of food from our own production by doing more growing, foraging, canning, drying, freezing, when necessary. When I don't garden or do homesteading work I read, take walks, go visit family or friends, watch documentaries, ride or repair bikes. When you're at our place you can go for walks in the forest, try horse riding, swim (in the summer) in the local commercial pool, party, play football, go on bike rides, run, do yoga, do art, music, join community events in the village. You can also have a city break in beautiful Timisoara if that sparks your interest.
